A Time of Transition

The Advocate is currently in a time of transition as we listen, discern, and prepare together for our next chapter.

During this time, we are grateful for the wonderful group of supply clergy who are worshiping with us and providing continuity in our shared life.

Pastoral Needs & Church Leadership

During this time of transition, if you have a pastoral need or need to reach church leadership, please contact one of our Wardens. They can help connect you with the appropriate clergy or other support.

Looking Ahead: The Rev. Nathan E. Kirkpatrick

Beginning in January 2027, the Rev. Nathan E. Kirkpatrick will join the Advocate through June 2027 to accompany and guide us during the next phase of our transition.

Nathan will work with the Vestry and congregation as we continue the listening and discernment already underway — helping us reflect on who we are as the Advocate, what matters most to us, how we want to be together, and where God may be calling us in our next chapter.

This work will build on the focus groups and congregational conversations taking place this fall, with opportunities for the whole congregation to participate along the way.

Nathan Kirkpatrick has been serving at the Advocate since 2013. He was ordained as a priest December 20, 2015. Nathan is one of the principal consultants of Saison Consulting, LLC.

Raised in the mountains of North Carolina, Nathan graduated from Wake Forest University and Duke Divinity School and served as a parish pastor in the United Methodist Church. Ten years ago, he joined the staff of the Divinity School at Duke University and now serves as the Managing Director of Leadership Education at Duke Divinity. In this role, he designs and teaches in a number of leadership development programs for congregational, denominational and institutional leaders.

Nathan has a keen sense of church and leadership, and is a gifted preacher and group facilitator. He has wide experience in multicultural, intergenerational, and interfaith settings, having been invited to preach and teach at churches and conferences around the country and on three continents.
