We are profoundly intentional about what we do,
because here we co-create a space, a place
that allows belief and bewilderment,
hope and hesitation, statement and question,
faith and not-yet-faith,
to mix and mingle, without assumption or judgment.
—Nathan Kirkpatrick, Priest Associate

The people of the Advocate are young and old, working and retired, settled and transient, rich and poor. We are partnered, single, married, and divorced. Some of us own our own homes, while others live in rented apartments, group homes, or assisted living. Some of us are locals, while others come from very far away. Many of us were raised in the Episcopal Church, but some come from other Christian traditions, or from no religious tradition at all.

Some of us came because we wanted to raise our children in a community that embodied our values. Some were happy to have found a place where our social values and faith could come together. Some were just grateful to have found a church where they felt truly welcome.

Many of us love to sing and dance, though some don’t. Most of us are huggers, but others prefer to keep their personal space. Some like to cook, others like to read. Some are crafty with a pair of knitting needles, others are more adept with a table saw. But all of us are passionate about making the world a better place, and connecting that passion with God’s call to be Christ’s hands and feet in the world.

All of us at the Advocate have found something that draws us here, that draws us together. It has something to do with the way we worship God, the way we sing, the way we care for each other, the way we care about the world. It has to do with Jesus.
