All people and friends of the Advocate are encouraged to attend as Justice United members will be introducing a number of formal petitions to the Town Council of Chapel Hill on Monday January 25, 2010.
The petitions are directly connected with the priorities that emerged from the house meeting process which involved over 1,000 people in our community. Justice United leaders envision a Town were workers are paid enough to live in Chapel Hill, where affordable housing is available and neighborhoods concerns are addressed.
Justice United is requesting publicly that the Town of Chapel Hill:
Take notice and address the items of concern identified during the Northside and Pine Knolls neighborhood walk. This petition will be introduced by Neighborhood leaders.
Raise the wage floor and automatically index to cost of living every year the salaries of full time workers covered by the Town’s living wage policy.
Support a comprehensive study of the next 10 years affordable housing needs and promote policies that foster more affordable housing in our community.
