Love Free or Die, A Film About the Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson, to be presented at Chapel of the Cross on May 1
Love Free or Die, a new film presented at the Full Frame Documentary Festival in Durham, traces the journey of The Right Reverend Gene Robinson, Bishop of New Hampshire, as he moved through what became an arduous and controversial consecration as the first openly gay Bishop in Christendom. The film has won a “Special Jury Prize” at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. With directness and courage, the documentary addresses the intersection of Bishop Robinson’s vocation as priest and bishop, as well as his vocation in a Christian marriage with his longtime spouse, Mark Andrew.
The screening will be held in the church, which is located next to the Morehead Planetarium. Admission is free. The Rev. Stephen Elkins-Williams, Rector, will introduce the film and moderate a discussion following. The official trailer may be found athttp://www.lovefreeordiemovie.com/video.html.

Steadfast Hope: A Tuesday Night Series on the Palestinian Quest for a Just Peace
Do you ever wonder why, after over 60 years, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict still drags on unresolved? As Christians, what stake do we have in this conflict—and what, if any, responsibility do we have to help make peace between these two peoples?
If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions—or even if you haven’t—please join us for a study of the Palestine-Israel issue offered on four Tuesday evenings in May by Chapel of the Cross, St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, and Episcopal Church of the Advocate.
This study will use a new educational resource published by the Episcopal Peace Fellowship’s Palestine-Israel Network, entitled Steadfast Hope: The Palestinian Quest for Just Peace. Study of Steadfast Hope by all churches in the Diocese of North Carolina was recommended by the diocesan Palestine-Israel Task Force during the most recent diocesan convention.
Each session will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a DVD presentation followed by discussion. A simple supper will be provided beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be no charge for the series, but donations to defray the cost of the curriculum will be gladly accepted.
Sessions are as follows:
Part One: May 8 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church (210 St. Mary’s Road, Hillsborough)
Part Two: May 15 at Chapel of the Cross (304 East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill)
Part Three: May 22 at Chapel of the Cross
Part Four: May 29 at Church of the Advocate (at the Unity Center of Peace, 8800 Seawell School Road, Chapel Hill)
