News and Notes: November 22 – December 4

Here’s what’s happening in the days ahead. All are welcome and encouraged to come!

Tuesday, November 22      Thanksgiving themed Taize Style Prayer service at the home of Seth and Elizabeth Raymond, 8410 Merin Road, Chapel Hill. For more information, contact: Seth Raymond <seth.raymond@duke.edu>

Wednesday, November 23   Thanksgiving Eve.

     Holy Eucharist with Hymns, 5:30 PM At the Unity Center of Peace, 8800 Seawell School Road. Come Ye Thankful People Come.

     Note: there will not be a noon Eucharist or Contemplative Prayer this week.

 

Sunday, November 27       The First Sunday of Advent      At Unity Center of Peace, 8800 Seawell School Road in Chapel Hill.

Note: In place of our usual “People’s Prelude”, in which talking and conversation are encouraged, we gather this season in silence, mindful that the space we are entering has become Holy Ground where we will encounter the Holy One. 
8:45 AM     Holy Eucharist followed by tailgate coffee hour in the Unity parking lot.
5 PM           Holy Eucharist followed by dinner (provided)

The Vicar will celebrate and Elizabeth Costello will preach. Child care for 1-6 year-olds during the Liturgy of the Word, though children are always welcome to join in the liturgy.

 

Wednesday, November 30

     Holy Eucharist at noon. At the Unity Center of Peace, 8800 Seawell School Road.

     Contemplative Prayer at 6 PM. At the Unity Center of Peace, 8800 Seawell School Road.

     7 PM – 8 PM    An Open Conversation with Marilyn McCord Adams About the Nicene Creed          Session 4 (of 4):  The Holy Spirit.    8410 Merin Road in Chapel Hill. Questions and concerns welcomed and encouraged.

 

Friday, December 2        The Advocate’s Conscientious Projector presents BUDRUS: a film about Palestinian nonviolence. Please plan to come and bring a friend and learn what we aren’t being told in our mainstream media.    7:30 PM at the Advocate at Unity Center of Peace, 8800 Seawell School Road, Chapel Hill.

Saturday, December 3     Homestead Work Day     9 AM – 1 PM  8410 Homestead Road (the Advocate Site)  Come rake and blow leaves, jump in them, bag them, drink cider and coffee, help install the 4 ft. bass sculpture, pick up sticks and branches, get to know others of the Advocate. All are welcome. Bring gloves to wear or a snack to share, bring your own rake or leaf-blower. (rain date, Sunday, December 4, at 11 AM).

Nets for Life Mite Boxes to be collected on Sundays in Advent and Christmastide! Join the people of the Diocese of North Carolina raising $$ to pay for mosquito netting for people in sub-Saharan Africa.The Diocese is hoping to raise $12 from every member of every congregation.
