The Advocate has joined the Diocese of North Carolina in a bold plan to support the Millennium Development Goals and prevent the spread of malaria through the Nets for Life campaign.
Malaria is a preventable disease that is spread through mosquito bites. Malaria is too often a disease of poverty, and 90% of the 250 million cases worldwide occur in Sub-Saharan Africa. To address this pressing public health problem, by 2012 the Episcopal Diocese will deliver 40,000 mosquito nets (one from every person in the Diocese) to sub-Saharan Africa to save an estimated 120,000 lives.
The people of The Advocate are invited to support this exciting initiative by each purchasing 1 net for $12 through the Creation Cycle. We will use our mite boxes to raise these funds, so whenever you empty your pockets of change, think of Nets for Life! Mite boxes will be available at Church each week and will be collected on Sundays in Advent and Christmas.
