where tradition, liturgy and reason meet compassion, justice and transformation

Teaching on Contemplative Prayer — Sundays in Lent at 10:15

Contemplative Prayer

In the tradition of John Main’s Christian Meditation

Five teaching sessions during Lent

Sunday mornings 10:15 to 11:30

February 21, 28, March 7, 14, 21

People of the Advocate and of our sponsoring churches, Chapel of the Cross, Holy Family, and St. Matthew’s, are invited, as well as anyone interested in learning about John Main’s path to contemplative prayer and meditation. Each of the churches has an early service you can attend then join in these sessions.

Discussions will include the reasons for the practice of contemplative prayer, the method, the background of this practice, questions that are likely to arise about so counter-cultural a practice, information about the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM), and 25 minutes of prayer.

Sessions will be held at 403 West Weaver Street in Carrboro at the office and occasional chapel of the Church of the Advocate. Please let us know of your intention to attend any or all sessions by emailing spiritual@ouradvocate.org
